When someone dies we have a ritual and a way of showing the world our grief, but when the grief is from a broken heart we have none. In this project I have tried to look into the grief of heartbreak and designed a ritual and a way of showing and dealing with the sorrow.
SELECTION FROM THE PROCESS
Heartbreak comes with emotional pain as well as physical pain. In the process, I looked into where on the body people feel the sorrow after a heartbreak. I have asked people to sculpt their sorrow in clay to understand the shapes of sorrow. I chose to create a collar because it is placed on the upper part of the chest and the throat, where many people feel their sorrow physically.

I chose to work with paper yarn because I wanted my design to be able to dissolve. Grief from a broken heart should not last forever. My design should not only give space for the sorrow, but also bring hope and lead the way back to being happy again. I experimented with my collar being able to transform into something new and beautiful - something that could grow. I chose that the collar should contain yellow poppy seeds within the yarn, because yellow is the color of joy and seeds from poppies are very small.
